Nikola Milojevic-Dupont

Nikola Milojevic-Dupont is a PhD candidate in the chair Sustainability Economics of Human Settlements, advised by Prof. Dr. Felix Creutzig. He is also affiliated with the Mercator Research Institute for Global Commons and Climate Change, in the working group Land Use, Infrastructure and Transport. He is a core team member of Climate Change AI, a volunteer organization aiming to facilitate impactful work at the intersection between machine learning and climate change.

Nikola’s work focuses on sustainable urban planning, with a particular focus on applying machine learning techniques to support data-driven public policies in urban areas. His doctoral thesis work includes literature reviews of existing machine learning approaches to mitigate climate change in cities via the building and transportation sectors; a data generation methodology to predict building heights from urban form; and the development of a mesoscopic model to estimate the heating and cooling demand of European buildings. With Climate Change AI, he has been contributing to community building among other by organizing workshops (e.g. the Applied Machine Learning Days 2020 at EPFL) and curating educational content.

Previously, he was a guest researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, where he wrote his master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Nico Bauer and Prof. Dr. Céline Guivarch, on the mitigation potential of bioenergy in Integrated Assessment Models and Life Cycle Assessment Models. He holds a MSc in Environmental and Energy Economics from a consortium of universities in Paris led by AgroParisTech, with a major in Integrated Assessment Modelling led by CIRED. Before, he studied economics at the University of Paris La Sorbonne.
